Since 1965 this school has been educating international students in Singapore. From the small beginnings of a school in a colonial house it covers an area of 36 acres. The campus is modern and was developed at a cost of $150million. Singapore American School (SAS) now trains almost 4000 pupils. The school employs 375 teachers and 60% are from the US.
The curriculum satisfies the standard for US professional associations, 90% of pupils go to school or university. The school provides instruction in three phases high, middle and primary. The primary section offers special play. Pupils in high school and middle school have access to MAP subjects and AP areas. SAS is one of eight international schools that give high school students the opportunity to join the AP Capstone programme to support entry to college.
Along with the wide variety of sporting opportunities available during and after school, the students or potential students from Northwave EC have access to more than 90 non-athletic clubs. The students participate in running the clubs and organising social activities including Theatrical performances. The school supplies Classroom Without Walls learning, this gives the 6-8th grade pupils the chance to to travel to Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia. This trip develops their self confidence and knowledge of the surroundings and culture of countries in Asia. SAS competes in sporting activities with other international schools in Asia and is an associate of the IASAS.

It provides tennis courts, outstanding facilities, playgrounds, full size football and baseball pitches and an all weather track and covered stadium. In 2013 SAS was granted a Solar Pioneer Award.
